STRUCTURAL & BUILDING SCIENCE
How structural design is coordinated with architectural drawings and the responsible engineering provider.
Structural design and architectural design need to agree on the building’s layout, levels and construction. The structural documents are prepared by the engineering provider responsible for that work. This page explains the coordination to discuss when your architectural project also needs structural input.
Provide the architectural arrangement, proposed construction and available drawings of the existing building. Openings, floor and roof levels, supports and equipment can affect the structural solution. The designers need to coordinate changes so their drawings describe the same proposal.
For an existing building, agree what records or site investigation the engineering provider needs. Hidden members or foundations may not be established by an architectural measurement visit.
Discuss the structural investigation, design, drawings and any later questions directly with the responsible provider. Identify how its work connects to the architectural documents and who responds to structural review comments.
FloridaPE provides a separate place to explore engineering services. Confirm the provider, scope and availability before proceeding; the architecture appointment should identify any coordination it includes.
The engineering provider responsible for the structural scope prepares its design and documents. Discuss the investigation, calculations, drawings and any separate review or inspection work directly with that provider.
The designers coordinate the layout, levels, supports, openings and details. A change in one set may affect the other, so agree who communicates and checks revisions.
Share them with the responsible designer. Their usefulness depends on the building, what the documents establish and the proposed changes. Additional verification or investigation may be needed.
