FLORIDA PERMIT DATA

How we count

What the records are, what a matching record means, and why a number here is not a statewide total.

Source

Where the records come from

The records come from a selected set of Florida jurisdictions, collected from their published permit data. Coverage is uneven: some jurisdictions publish more fields and go back further than others, and a jurisdiction that publishes nothing is not a jurisdiction with no construction.

That is why every page says the Florida permit records we analyzed, and never all Florida permits.

Matching

What a matching record is

A permit matches a term when its description contains matching language. That can include a passing mention and can miss unusual wording. One permit can match several terms, so adding category counts can count it more than once.

A job pattern is stricter: it requires every term in its list, or at least one from a designated set, to appear on the same permit.

Values

Declared job value

Declared job value is the amount reported on the permit application. Its basis can vary, and the dataset does not verify it against a contract or the amount ultimately paid.

A value band is shown only where at least 25 matching permits carry a declared value. Below that, the value band is omitted. We show a median rather than a mean to reduce the influence of extreme entries; this does not establish that the amounts are accurate.

County lists

How to read the county order

A number beside a county identifies its position in the dataset’s general county order. The order is shared across term pages; it does not rank counties by activity for any one kind of work. County and city lists are kept separate, and coverage varies between places.

Data coverage

How current the records are

Data through August 2026. Jurisdictions publish on their own schedules, so the most recent month in the data may lag behind current construction activity. The date shown on each page marks the latest month included in the dataset.
